Final Reflection

Image
After reading the posts from this year, the most formative, memorable, joyous, and proud moment was asking my friends what my "special sauce" was. It made me feel really good to hear all the positive qualities my friends believed I possessed. Now, at the end of this class, I definitely see myself as more of an entrepreneur than I did at the beginning of the semester. I possess much more of an entrepreneurial mindset. One recommendation to students going down this path in the future is to embrace failure. To foster that mindset, they must not be afraid to take risks. Something that will allow students to succeed in this class is to make sure to hand in work on time, and to use a creative mindset.

Opportunity My opportunity is intended to improve the lives of all the people who are in the Gainesville area, whether they live here or are just visiting. The idea is based off of the fact that the traffic light at the intersection of West University Avenue and Southwest 13 th  Street is very inefficient, and takes up unnecessary chunks of time that people can be allocating towards something else. Also, the light puts many in the path of danger. Thus, people in the Gainesville area are my intended customers. While the opportunity I am looking to exploit is not a necessity, and currently has alternatives, these alternatives waste a lot of precious time for people, or risk their safety. A big reason that this opportunity exists involves the abundance of popular locations in the area, including The Standard, Publix, Piesano’s, and the Holiday Inn. Because of these locations, a lot of traffic buildup, including foot and cars, builds up, and the slow rotating traffic light doesn’t h...

My Exit Strategy

1: For my exit strategy, I plan on creating a change in this specific intersection by implementing the more efficient traffic light, and being known as SOMEONE WHO CAN GET THINGS DONE. I tend to use this reputation to secure opportunities in the future. 2: This is because I do not want to end up living in Gainesville, and while I love my time here, I do not want to spend my future creating change in a place where I don't live. I want to move on to new endeavors. 3: I think because of my exit tragedy, I am working extra hard to get this done ASAP, so I can move on to different things.

Reading Reflection No. 3

For this assignment, I read  Elon Musk: Tesla, SpaceX, and the Quest for a Fantastic Future by Ashlee Vance. 1: What surprised me was all this man has accomplished. Literally any single one of his businesses would be impressive, but to see him at the front seat of all these corporations is unbelievable. Thus, I admire his passion to keep going, and never settle, even if that means settling on a great success like Tesla. Something I do not admire about him is making decisions without consulting others close to him, however he has made it successful so why should I judge. He has failed many times in his life, but has used these failures as learning lessons and motivation, which is a primary reason as to why he is one of the most wealthy people on Earth. 2: Something I have noticed about the best entrepreneurs is that they all are much more resilient than the average person, which allows them to succeed at unprecedented levels. Elon Musk failed so many times, yet got back up every ...

Celebrating Failure

One time I failed this past semester was when I tried to cook steak on the grill for my girlfriend and I's anniversary. I am not much of a chef myself, so I called up my father, figured out what to buy, how to prepare it, and I was set, or at least I thought so. I bought the steak, marinated it the night before, and it comes time to go upstairs to the roof of The Standard to cook. Well, I had no idea how to work the grill, and after 20 minutes of pushing random buttons and fearing that I would burn down the apartment, we left. We ended up making it on the stove the next day, so it was fine, but in the moment it was a shame that I could not do this for her. I learned a couple of things from this experience. First and foremost, I came home a couple weeks later and learned how to work a grill. I also learned that while I couldn't cook the steak for her on the grill, she wasn't upset, as it was the thought that counted. Lastly, I learned that while something may suck in the mo...

What's Next

Existing Market: What's next is simple; I must get the attention of the head honchos for the traffic laws in Gainesville. Whether this is through protests, or visiting certain people in charge, I must actually take action at this point. When talking to customers in my existing market, all three agreed that the most important step I'm missing is that I must find out exactly the best route in terms of creating change. Once I do that, they all obviously said that I must act on that. From my own perspective, and using the advice of customers in the market for my opportunity, it is clear. I must figure out the best way to bring attention to this issue, and act on it. New Market: My new market would be people in rural areas. This is because traffic laws aren't as important to them, as they are not driving as much. Also, they probably are very different from my target market in that since they do not live around Gainesville, this issue is of little importance to them. While m...
