Halfway Reflection

Image
1: Some behaviors I use or improve in this class include critical thinking, self reflection, and learning perspectives. Also, I procrastinate less often than usual due to the scheduling of the workload. 2: One moment I considered giving up is actually right now, as it is late, and I was considering not doing this assignment, and thus, not receive the credit. However, I realized that this sacrifice in the short run will help me out in the long run. Another example is when I run for exercise, including high school cross-country and track, I often think about taking breaks to walk, as it would be more comfortable. However, something that always comes to my mind is the faster I run, the faster I'm done. Over the past 2 months, I would say I have become more tenacious. Something in this class that helpe d me with that was the constant amount of interviews I was required to conduct, as that taught me that while I may think I have all the information at first, I must continue to converse...

Reading Reflection No. 1

I chose the book Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacson. 1: A: What surprised me the most was probably the mentioning of Steve Jobs occasional drug use, specifically involving weed and LSD. B: The thing I most admire about Steve Jobs is how, once him and Apple split ways, he got back on his feet, and started another successful company. He then sold that company to Apple, and soon later returned to Apple, becoming the CEO of the company, and leading them out of bankruptcy. C: What I least admire is the reason he split with Apple, conflict in the workplace. In many fields it is important to be cooperative with your coworkers, and while he may have been right, Jobs certainly didn't communicate or work best with his coworkers. D: Jobs often encountered adversity and failure. He was adopted as a kid, which can be very difficult. Also, when he and Apple split, that was a failure spot in his life, but he got up, kept going, and eventually put himself in an even better situation. 2: Some compe...

Figuring Out Buyer Behavior No. 1

The segment I have chosen for my product are the people in Gainesville who maneuver around the intersection of West University Avenue and Southwest 13th Street. It is not enough to simply be in the area, as travel around this specific area is the main struggle that must be fixed. Typically my target customers would use this intersection to travel daily. My first interviewee is my girlfriend Elanit, who lives at The Standard. She mentions that the traffic light interferes with her life and schedule daily. For example, she sometimes must carry loads of groceries from Publix to her apartment at a time, and it can be frustrating to hold on to that much weight for an unnecessarily long period. While waiting, the first thing she does is decides if it is more worth it to wait her turn or to illegally walk across the street, as besides that, there is no other choice. Next, I interviewed my friend Michael, who often needs to walk across the street from The Standard to the Heavener School of B...

Ideal Napkin No. 1

1: I am a student here at the University of Florida from Baltimore who is attempting to earn a Master's in Finance. I am a big fan of music, sports, spending time with friends, meeting new people, and most of all, success. Growing up, I was involved with student government, entrepreneurial cohorts, and teaching at my local Hebrew school on Sundays. I came from attending a small private school, which was a very different environment than what I am currently living in, so being able to succeed here, so unknown and far away from home, is a skill that I am proud of. I have always felt a need to best represent the groups I am involved with, which has led me to demand change. 2: I am offering a more efficient traffic light at the corner of West University Avenue and Southwest 13th Street. It will decrease traffic and the amount of accidents and risk for both cars and humans. 3: This product targets residents in Gainesville that often maneuver around that intersection. It is located in a...

Elevator Pitch No.1

Imagine you are carrying all your groceries from Publix back to your apartment, or are in a time crunch to get to the football game before it starts, but first you must wait up to ten minutes to walk through a crosswalk. Or you drive to meet your family who is visiting, eager since it has been a couple months since you guys have seen each other, but first you must wait several minutes to turn into the hotel parking lot. Lastly, and worst of all, imagine driving and approaching a traffic light that does not rotate very often, and rushing it, only to end up in an accident that could have fatal consequences. Frustrating right? These are all issues that arise from the inefficient traffic light at the intersection of West University Avenue and Southwest 13 th Street. Hello all, my name is Ben Nawy, and today I offer a solution that would involve a traffic light which better responds to the buildup of traffic, both by cars and humans, at each area of the intersection. It would mainly spe...

Testing the Hypothesis, Part 2

In my next set of interviews, I targeted a group of older students here at the University of Florida who live at The Standard, many of who are involved in the business school. Two of the five people I had interviewed also have cars, which allows them to experience the struggles of driving at the intersection of West University Avenue and Southwest 13th Street. All have expressed frustration in the traffic lights, as well as the crosswalk light, but have trouble thinking of a way to fix the problem in a convenient way. Still, they believe something must be done to fix the lights, as the traffic and occasional accidents are unbearable. Who (and who not): Gainesville residents who often travel around that area are target customers. However, not all people in the Gainesville area would be the type that this opportunity is meant to help, as if they rarely maneuver around that intersection, a fix may not benefit them too much. What (and what not): The issues that I am trying to solve inclu...

Solving the Problem

The opportunity I am trying to exploit involves the traffic light at the intersection of West University Avenue and Southwest 13th Street. The length of time people must wait to move forward causes a lot of traffic and accidents, as it changes too slowly, and is in a very busy area, with locations like Publix, The Standard, and the Holiday Inn around. A solution I thought of is to research who was responsible for putting the light there and how often it changes signs. Once this is completed, I will get a petition of people’s signatures who want change, and bring it in or email it, pleading with them to fix this problem.

Testing the Hypothesis, Part 1

The opportunity I am discussing in this post is how the traffic light at the intersection of West University Avenue and Southwest 13th Street causes a lot of traffic and accidents, as it changes too slowly, and is in a very busy area. My hypothesis is that all locals in Gainesville are inconvenienced and put at risk by the slow light at the intersection, which the government must fix immediately, due to the many popular locations, like Publix, the Standard, and the Holiday Inn, near it. Once I started interviewing my peers, it became evident that my hypothesis stood strong. My girlfriend, Elanit, who lives at The Standard, an apartment complex at the intersection, believed it was an inconvenience, but didn’t think the work that would be needed to fix it would be worth it. My next three interviewees, my friends Dan and David and my father, were clearly upset about the length of time they must wait to move forward at that intersection. They all often need to walk across that ...

Identifying Opportunities in Economic and Regulatory Trends

Economic 1: Climate change is causing more natural disasters. A: I heard about this trend on the Wall Street Journal researching economic trends in the United States. B: Providing proof of actions we as humans take that harm our environment would potentially cause people to change their behavior. An opportunity exists for us to better ourselves for the sake of the world we live on. There are currently some actions taking place, like electric cars, but I believe we can do more. C: Humans not only in the country, but also worldwide would be the prototypical customer. D: This opportunity is difficult to exploit because we as humans want to accomplish our daily tasks as quickly and conveniently as possible, which often leads to damaging our world. We are very lazy as a society, and it is hard for people to sacrifice the ease of their lives for a healthier world, even if it leads to natural disasters. E: I saw this opportunity because, walking around Israel, I noticed the abundance of...
