Elevator Pitch No.1
Imagine you are carrying all your groceries from Publix back to your apartment, or are in a time crunch to get to the football game before it starts, but first you must wait up to ten minutes to walk through a crosswalk. Or you drive to meet your family who is visiting, eager since it has been a couple months since you guys have seen each other, but first you must wait several minutes to turn into the hotel parking lot. Lastly, and worst of all, imagine driving and approaching a traffic light that does not rotate very often, and rushing it, only to end up in an accident that could have fatal consequences. Frustrating right? These are all issues that arise from the inefficient traffic light at the intersection of West University Avenue and Southwest 13th Street. Hello all, my name is Ben Nawy, and today I offer a solution that would involve a traffic light which better responds to the buildup of traffic, both by cars and humans, at each area of the intersection. It would mainly speed up the rotation of “right of ways” at the intersection, allowing less people to move at a time, but rotating amongst turns quicker, and thus, minimizing the buildup of traffic. Also, since people wouldn’t sit at the light as long, they would be less eager to rush it, which would result in the decline of accidents in that area. The many popular locations in the vicinity, including The Holiday Inn, The Standard, Publix, and Piesanos, attract many, and thus, the area needs to be better prepared for a large amount of people. That is where the more efficient, more effective, traffic light would come into play, as it would give certain lanes with more traffic the “right of way” in a timely manner. We all have important tasks everyday, so why not make all of our lives a little easier by putting in the effort to fix this issue?
