What's Next
Existing Market:
What's next is simple; I must get the attention of the head honchos for the traffic laws in Gainesville. Whether this is through protests, or visiting certain people in charge, I must actually take action at this point.
When talking to customers in my existing market, all three agreed that the most important step I'm missing is that I must find out exactly the best route in terms of creating change. Once I do that, they all obviously said that I must act on that.
From my own perspective, and using the advice of customers in the market for my opportunity, it is clear. I must figure out the best way to bring attention to this issue, and act on it.
New Market: My new market would be people in rural areas. This is because traffic laws aren't as important to them, as they are not driving as much. Also, they probably are very different from my target market in that since they do not live around Gainesville, this issue is of little importance to them.
While my entrepreneurial idea offers no base value for people of this new market, it shows them what they must do if they want change. They must find an issue that bothers many people, have proof of that, make a solution, make some noise, and act. Through this method, they can promote changes that are more relevant to them.
During the interviews with two people in this new market, I learned that they agree with my step by step process on promoting change. They also mentioned that while this issue does not really apply to them, they would definitely be upset if they were living in Gainesville and had to deal with this traffic light on a daily basis. My interviewees understood where I was coming from, and agreed that my solution would be beneficial to the community.
This was somewhat surprising for me. I thought that these new customers would be hard to interview, since the issue did not particularly pertain to them. However, I was wrong, and they were more than happy to talk about this issue, and actually put themselves in my shoes to understand the effects of this topic. While this market will never be a good one for my product, it was nice to hear that they would have the same frustrations if they lived in my area.
