The Story: In the past week, there have been three fatal accidents involving pedestrians being hit by oncoming drivers.
The Problem: Drivers, but even more so, pedestrians, do not pay close enough attention to the street laws and lights.

The Story: The spread of Coronavirus has swept the world, and their is fear of its spread in the United States, specifically because Florida is popular location for travelers.
The Problem: The spread of the virus.
Whose Problem: Everyone's.

The Story: 73 year-old Herman Eugene Steele crashes his plane on way home for daughter's birthday and funeral, leading to his death. Many warned him about the poor weather conditions, yet he proceeded to fly anyway.
The Problem: Pilots disregarding safety hazards when flying, time management
Whose Problem: Pilots, pedestrians they may crash into.

The Story: Local law enforcement in Ocala were unable to identify three people who have committed burglary this month, on separate occasions.
The Problem: Dangerous people are still walking around our streets, yet to be brought to justice, and may harm any random person or establishment next. Yet no one has any information that would be beneficial to give to the police.
Whose Problem: Locals, the people they committed burglary against.

"9-Year-Old Accused of Stabbing his 5-Year-Old Sister"
The Story: After a mom left her kids alone to get the mail and buy them candy, her 9 year-old son stabbed his 5 year-old sister. This is believed to be a result of the kids' surroundings.
The Problem: Kids sometimes have mental disorders that go unnoticed, and especially in this society where they are exposed to everything at such a young age, they do not think before they act. Also a poor living situation/poor parenting can lead to kids acting out in crazy ways.
Whose Problem: The family's, kids whose mental disorders go unchecked and their families, anyone they may harm by accident.

ReplyDeleteWe identified local opportunities in a very similar way, because some of our stories are the same or similar. I also chose to make note of the pedestrian stories, because there is definitely an opportunity there to teach both drivers and pedestrians to be a little more cautious, especially in Gainesville. Also, I did a similar story to your burglary one, except mine was about three Ocala teens who stole a car who then got caught. Yours poses more of an opportunity, because information is needed on those suspects.
